Top Gun: A Brief Revisit

“Top Gun: Maverick,” the long-awaited film sequel to the original 1986 “Top Gun” has been released recently.

It opened to rave reviews (Tomatometer: 97%; Audience: 99%) and smashing statistics at the box office (over $474M domestically, $900M worldwide).

That is all well and good.

But both films were merely that: films.

A form of media.

Designed for entertainment.

With imaginary scripts written by writers in the comfort of their offices, far from the discomforts of war.

Now we’re faced with reality.

A country victimized by simply existing, fighting for its very survival, is calling upon the largest member of NATO to come to its assistance in the form of latest weaponry.

The USA declined to establish a no-fly zone in the skies above Ukraine but is now being asked to supply contemporary jets in Ukraine’s effort to level the playing field.
