Here are the 4 points of the latest Russian proposal for ending the invasive war of Ukraine:

1) Stop fighting.

2) Change the Ukrainian constitution in ensure neutrality.

3) Accept Russian sovereignty over Crimea.

4) Recognize separatist republics of Donetsk and Lugansk as independent states.

My understanding is that Naftali Bennett, Israeli Prime Minister, may have advised Volodymyr Zelensky, President of Ukraine, to accept Russia’s terms.

They are supposedly not as good as Zelensky might have gotten prior to the invasion, but perhaps better than he might get in the future.

It is the opinion of some that the invasion may have been averted all together had the West not been so adamant about Ukraine joining NATO.

Leaders of the West deemed that a non-starter.

In truth, that proclamation may have played right into the hands of Russia as a pretext for war.

Rather, the West might have learned something from a page of American comedian Groucho Marx’s book: I don’t want to be a member of any group that would have me.

Why be so blatant about broadcasting your future intentions in the present?

The Russians certainly aren’t.

Rather, they play their cards close to their vests and keep their adversary guessing.
