There is a small, select group of people who, if asked, can tell you what they were doing on a given day, what the weather was like that day, what they were wearing, and other statements that indicate they remember that given day with a high degree of accuracy.
As if it were yesterday.
Or earlier today.
Most us, in the afternoon, can tell you what we had for breakfast that day.
But ask us what we had a couple days or week ago, and we will likely hesitate before answering.
This group of people can tell you what happened on, say, the morning May 3, 1987 (if they were alive then).
It doesn’t have to be a particularly notable day. It can be virtually any day in that particular person’s past.
This is a small group.
As of 2021 no greater than 100 people have been identified as having this condition.
60 MINUTES, the CBS news program, has run more than one segment on this unusual phenomenon, which piques the imagination of some and the probable admiration of many more.
The condition is known as both hyperthymesia and HSAM (highly superior autobiographic memory).
