The Russians Are Coming (Again)

I do not have any inside information as to why the Russians want Donald Trump to be re-elected POTUS.

There has been media speculation that perhaps they have compromising material on him. Or not.

Perhaps they think him more malleable than his opponent.

Trump is a (relatively) known quantity. Having never been POTUS, Joe Biden, despite his many years of public service, is not.

In 2018, in Helsinki, Trump famously favored Vladimir Putin’s word on election interference over American intelligence conclusions.

Regardless, the fact the Russians have stated their preference by resorting to hacking to achieve their goal should make us sit up and take notice.

Few pretend that, in global realpolitik, they are our friends. Far from it.

Nations have realigned since WWII, which the Russians helped the Allies win. In fact, Japan’s surrender in September, 1945 may have had as much to do with the USSR invasion of Manchuria as the dropping of atomic bombs on Hiroshima and Nagasaki.
