Almost two millennia ago a man stood in a court of law.

Clothing in tatters from being whipped, dried blood on his face from a crown of thorns being pressed upon his head, he was silent.

He was accused by Jewish leaders of sedition.

Sentence was to be carried out by the Romans, under whose yoke the Jews lived.

The Jews argued it was better for one man to die than for a whole nation to perish.

That man was Jesus of Nazareth.

We know what happened.

Though innocent of the charges brought against him, he died a cruel death on the hill of Golgotha.

What happened to the Jewish nation?

They almost perished anyway.

They were decimated during WWII and might have been wiped out had Hitler’s Final Solution been implemented as planned.

They survive today as a diaspora and the nation of Israel.

The life and death and subsequent life of Jesus spawned a movement which has endured as Christianity, one of the 3 major Abrahamic religions.

Almost 2.4B people (close to 1/3 the world’s population) consider themselves Christian.
