“Jesus did not come to change the mind of God about humanity; Jesus came to change the mind of humanity about God.”

  • Richard Rohr (1943 -), Franciscan friar, American author

But three months old, he floated in a small basket made of bulrushes, daubed with pitch to make it waterproof. The king’s daughter went to the river to bathe and discovered him. Although raised by another, he became her son. He might have become Pharaoh one day.

For the first third of his life he was raised in the king’s court and, for all intents and purposes, was an Egyptian. He had an unparalleled education, doubtless becoming skilled in the art of warfare as well as enjoying a rare life of luxury royalty afforded.

But then one day something happened.

He saw a people oppressed — his people — and committed a violent act for which he had to flee.

The mid third of his life was spent as a shepherd, tending flock in a foreign land. A stranger in a strange land.

About as different as imaginable from what his previous life had been.

But then he was chosen, in a supernatural way he couldn’t ignore. The burning bush which would not be consumed. For, as has been written, many are called, but few chosen.
