The Kingdom May Be Like Unto…

I realize there is some risk in doing this.

We have been cautioned against adding or detracting from Holy Writ.

It is not my purpose to do either.

Rather, I speculate.

Perhaps I wonder.

And this is what I wonder.

If the Master were alive today, He might liken to kingdom of heaven to something anachronistic in His day.

Rather than a mustard seed, leaven, pearl of great price, or treasure in a field, He might think of a clothes washer and dryer.

In His day there were no laundry washers or dryers.

Electricity had not been discovered.

All that would come later.

Humans, likely women, washed clothes by hand, as their foremothers had done for centuries.

I suspect there was no laundry detergent.

TIDE and other detergents would only come later.

Women may have pounded dirty clothing with rocks.

Or rubbed the clothing against itself in an effort to cleanse it.

Much like this:

And, after the pounding was over, hung the clothing up to dry or stretched them out to dry in the sun and the breeze.
