Recall a Recall?

The last time a CA governor was recalled was in 2003, when incumbent Democrat Gray Davis was supplanted by Republican Arnold Schwarzenegger.

That was 18 years ago.

Schwarzenegger is perhaps better known for his muscle matter than his gray matter. But perhaps we underestimated him. He famously opined: “Money doesn’t make you happy. I now have $50M but I was just as happy when I had $48M.”

Gavin Newsom, current CA governor, is up for re-election (should he choose to run) on November 8, 2022. He has served since 2019.

But he may also be recalled this year.

Are his purported sins crimson enough that he should be recalled? About a year ahead of when an election would be held anyway?

Some think so. Newsom has actually faced recall multiple (6) times since being elected. This is the first recall that has gained traction. The other recalls are inactive.

The recall may cost an estimated $100M. Where is that money coming from? Take a guess.

CA is one of 20 states that permits recall of its governor.

The recall process in CA is comparatively easy, requiring the signatures of just 12% of those cast in the prior election. This amounts to 1.5M signatures.
