My broadband access has been down for several days.
Acknowledging it to be a matter of some controversy, I do not turn off my desktop computer or modem at night.
Rather, I put the computer in SLEEP mode and leave the modem plugged in.
Now the ‘Internet’ light on my modem will not stay a solid green.
I have tried various things, including unplugging modem from power and DSL, rebooting my desktop computer, changing the modem power cord, and speaking at length to technical support of my internet provider.
I have gotten mixed signals.
Two different people at the tech helpline have told me my modem is OK, but the 2nd nevertheless advised me to buy a new modem. His advice led me to believe perhaps the modem wasn’t OK after all.
Practically in the same breath, he admitted DSL appears to be on its way out.
I am unable to find a replacement modem except used, which I do not want.
It is at times like this that I appreciate having my smartphone which, if I turn off Wi-Fi, allows me to at least access e-mail and internet.
