Nobody Knows

2020 is almost over. Many of us breathe a collective sigh of relief. We hope 2021 will be a better year. What with the various vaccines that have become somewhat available, it may be. Then again, it may not. For one thing, COVID-19 may mutate into something we might end up calling COVID-21. We keep fingers crossed and look for wood to knock.

There may be surprises around the corner. Ones none can foresee.

A number of columnists, reporters and commentators have looked back and tallied their forecasting accuracy. Their wins and losses. It can be a sobering and humbling business.

Living in southern CA, I subscribe to its largest newspaper: the LA TIMES. Quite some time ago, I took the day’s issue with me to the tennis court.

Even day-old news can be stale. I prefer my fare (whether for body or mind) fresh, if possible.

Sometimes more than 4 players show up, in which event we rotate and I get to peruse the paper.

I was reminded of the political mindset of some in the community where I live when one of the players, at one time an organizer of the tennis group, commented on my reading material.

“Oh, that’s such a liberal newspaper.” The words tumbled like ice cubes from my refrigerator.
