Making the Poor Comfortable

In a FL rally one week ago, VP Mike Pence said this: “Democrats want to make rich people poorer and poor people more comfortable.” This said as if it is a bad thing, an undesirable outcome, something to avoid if possible.

Democrats did not protest, but agreed with Pence. This is one of the few times the two sides may concur.

Here is a report of what was said at the rally:

Devout evangelical Pence once described himself thusly: a Christian, a conservative, and a Republican, in that order. I think he may have gotten the order confused.

Nowhere in Christ’s teachings did He counsel against making the poor more comfortable. If anything, quite the opposite.

During his 3 years of ministry, He interacted much more with the poor, with the common folk, than He did with those of means. Perhaps in part because there were so many more of them.

He told us the poor would be with us always. I think how we treat them is telling. Actions almost always speak louder than words.
