This is not a eulogy.

I didn’t know M well enough to deliver a eulogy.

Had I, I suspect I would have found much to admire.

A eulogy would be more appropriately delivered by someone who knew him better.

Such as his brother, who promised their mother he would take care of M before she passed.

Not to worry, Mother.

I will look after him.

But even relatives may not have known him well.

Which brings up the question: how well can we ever know someone else?

Even our own flesh and blood?

Some people guard their privacy, to which they are entitled.

Every person deserves a certain measure of that, if he so wishes.

I am moved to write of him because he was a human being, and thus a member of the larger family of man.

Being Christian, I utter the Lord’s Prayer on occasion.

It starts with ‘Our Father.’

I pray with sincerity and an open heart to an unseen deity I believe is there and who hears me and may grant my supplication.

If taken to its logical conclusion, that means all members of the human family are our brothers and sisters.
