There was considerable concern expressed about foreign interference in the Presidential elections of the USA of 2016 and 2020. Most notable among countries that were thought to have interfered in 2016 was Russia.

The current occupant of the White House denied it, but subordinate experts in a position to know said otherwise. A bipartisan commission affirmed interference. Whether it was instrumental in installing Donald Trump as the 45th POTUS may never be known or divulged. Inference by a foreign government may have played a minor role.

So it was only natural that Americans be concerned about similar interference in the most recent election. It seems clear the Russians wanted Trump to be reelected. The reason for this wish can be surmised. Nations rarely act against their own self-interest.

I wrote about it in this essay:

Other nations (e.g. China, Iran) were also implicated, but to a lesser extent.

But, despite efforts the extent of which may never be known, the Russians did not get their wish. Rather, the will of American voters prevailed.
