Part of this reportage NOT news.
But it could be.
On 24 February, 2022, Russia, the world’s largest country by size (stretching across 11 time zones) and a population of 144M, having one of the world’s largest and best equipped military forces, and its largest nuclear arsenal, invaded Ukraine, a country of 44M people with a vastly inferior military and no nuclear weapons.
Vladimir Putin, leader of Russia, didn’t use the word ‘invasion.’ Instead, he called the incursion by almost 200k troops a ‘special military operation.’
The world, in general, and Ukraine, in particular, knew better.
Putin’s aim was to topple a democratically elected government and replace it with his own puppet regime.
At minimum.
The populace of Ukraine either fled or prepared to fight.
There were long lines out of the country.
Cars crept for hours.
People huddled in subways and fallout shelters.
There was much anxiety and uncertainty.
