News item: Donald J. Trump has agreed to up to 2 debates with Kamala Harris.
My suggestion: don’t do it, Kamala. Don’t fall for this potential trap.
There is only one reason to agree to a debate: to emerge looking better than you did going in.
Unless you feel you owe it to the American people to debate.
But I’m not sure that’s a valid premise.
Debates don’t necessarily correlate with one’s ability to govern.
Joe Biden’s governed better than he recently debated.
There are those who might disagree with the former statement.
Both Democrats and Republicans can agree (though there may be little else upon which they may agree) with the latter.
Polls show you already ahead.
I suspect that may remain so.
And, depending on whom you choose to be your running mate, you may pull ahead even more.
How much ahead do you want to be?
Sure, it’d be nice to have you comfortably ahead, and even in a position to witness a landslide — but that may not happen.
