She’s done it again.
MacKenzie Scott (formerly Bezos) has donated billions - and likely again. Only this time, she’s not revealing specifically how much or to whom the donations were made.
She wrote of this in an essay posted at medium.com.
After several rounds of giving, she’s given away close to $8.7B of her fortune, which is still estimated to be close to $59B, pursuant to her divorce from Jeff Bezos, founder of the insanely successful amazon.com. in 2019.
Ben Soskis, a senior research associate at the Center on Nonprofits and Philanthropy at the Urban Institute, recently weighed in. He has termed her current method ‘problematic’ as regards transparency and perhaps other noble motives.
He is entitled to his opinion, but he may be one of the few who view Scott’s m. o. as problematic.
The way I see it, MacKenzie is entitled to give however much she wants to whomever she wants. And divulge that information. Or not.
She did indicate that recipients of her latest round of largesse were free to divulge details of her donation if they wished. She wasn’t going to.
I think Soskis’ opinion smacks a bit of sour grapes. The kind you wouldn’t use if your intention is to make fine wine.
