Dancing with the Russian Bear

One fact seems irrefutable: Russia wanted Donald Trump to be re-elected POTUS in the recent Presidential election. The real reason(s) may never be known. Speculations ran the gamut from Putin having dirt (prostitutes? shady dealings?) on Trump, which Putin and his underlings could continue to leverage so long as Trump was POTUS; to Trump having the combination of short attention span and noninquiring mind that lent itself to a certain malleability that Russia deemed favorable to its own interests. Or something else. Both Russian operatives and Trump seemed to favor chaos as modus operandi.

Russia failed in its attempts (again, the full depth of which will probably never be known) to get Trump re-elected. A triumph for which we the people can be grateful.

The transfer of executive power is slated for just about a month from now.

But Russia has not given up. The latest extensive — estimated 18,000 government and nongovernment accounts — and deep cyberhacking is almost certainly Russian (see this link and comments by Mike Pompeo, Secretary of State):
