“Learn the wisdom of compromise, for it is better to bend a little than to break.”

The current pandemic, the 3rd wave of which we appear to be in now, has been devastating.

There have been 58.7M cases worldwide, with 1.4M deaths.

In the USA, there have been 12.3M cases, with 257K deaths.

For the past 20 days, there have been over 100K cases/day in the U. S.

Death has visited young and old (though mainly the old), has particularly affected certain groups — people of color, the obese, those with underlying conditions — and not been a discriminator of persons. In many cases, it has been tragic.

Patients have died alone and on ventilators.

Some lie in unmarked graves.

Some have died of COVID-19 while protesting to the end that they had something else: the flu or pneumonia not due to the novel virus. For them, 2 + 2 doesn’t = 4. They may have been victims of magical thinking. A Flat Earth society might have welcomed them.

The economic toll has also been staggering, related to restrictions placed by well-meaning officials in an effort to contain the pandemic.
