News item: Katie Waldman Miller, communications director for VP Mike Pence, and husband Stephen Miller, senior advisor to POTUS Trump, announced the birth of their child, a daughter. Mackenzie was born November 19.
Both Mr. and Mrs. Miller tested positive for COVID-19 (Stephen in October, Katie in May), but seem healthy now, and Mackenzie also appears healthy.
That is something for which to be grateful.
It could have been otherwise.
The Millers have been ardent supporters of the current administration’s child-separation policy for those seeking immigration and asylum. Stephen is considered to have been the architect of that policy.
It is acknowledged hundreds of children are still separated from their parents, many of whom were deported to their home countries while the kids stayed in the USA.
According to an ACLU filing in October, 545 children still wait for their parents to be contacted.
Katie Miller made the following comment in July, 2020 to Jacob Soboroff, NBC news reporter and author of the book, “Separated: Inside an American Tragedy”: the Department of Homeland Security sent her “to the (southern) border to see the separations for myself — to try to make me more compassionate — but it didn’t work.”
