Chinese Are Not Amused

Mike Huckabee, former governor of AR (1996–2007), tweeted this message on April 3:

“I’ve decided to ‘identify’ as Chinese. Coke will like me, Delta will agree with my ‘values’ and I’ll probably get shoes from Nike and tickets to MLB games. Ain’t America great?”

Notably, Huckabee started his career as a Southern Baptist minister.

He may have given the gospel a black eye, whether he intended to or not.

Beth Moore, who recently rescinded her Southern Baptist affiliation, responded, “This is entirely antithetical to the gospel.”

Jimmy Carter is also no longer a Southern Baptist.

I suspect both Moore and Carter learned something worth knowing.

Huckabee’s non-apology to Moore said: “I do take gospel seriously.”

Some may wonder what he might have tweeted had he not been an ostensible follower of the gospel. Presumably, the gospel constrains impulsive behavior.

During the time of apartheid in South Africa, there were four designated classes of people: white, colored, Asian and native.

The whites had the most privileges, including where to live, where to eat, whether one could buy liquor without a permit, etc. Naturally, the best of everything was reserved for the whites.
