It is an appropriate time to revisit gifts and gifting.
As one year closes and another is upon us, much of the world participates in gift sharing and exchanging.
In recent years, with some reluctance, I asked my adult daughter what she wanted for Christmas.
I felt a bit awkward doing this and would not have been surprised had she rebuffed my feeble attempt at reliving what had gone on in times past when she was but a little girl.
Some of us tend to get frozen in time.
One year she said her kitchen knife set could use replacing.
It gave me pleasure to get her something she would use and perhaps think of me when she bisects a carrot or apple.
Another year she indicated she was hoping to join her husband, who is an accomplished golfer, on the links.
So I found a set which met with their approval.
She seemed happy and is taking lessons.
She suffers not at all from lack of hand-eye coordination.
In recent years she beat me at ping-pong (I was a fair player at one time).
There is no one I would rather lose to.
This year, she had no good response, but did indicate something her son might like.
He is immersed in baseball and wanted a speed gun, which I bought for him.
