In my recent wanderings (as British author J R R Tolkien once observed, ‘Not all who wander are lost’), I noticed this establishment. So unusual was it I had to take a photo.

Car washes are not that uncommon, although, in certain communities (including my own), some owners of vehicles have taken to having their vehicles washed by professional washers, who bring their own supplies and equipment.

It seems to be a win-win situation. The worker, in that he gets a job, the owner because his vehicle is now clean. This costs more than a conventional carwash, to which one must drive, but it’s only money, after all. There’s nothing quite like cachet service — someone coming to your door to wash your vehicle.

For those disinclined to fork over extra cash, there are various levels in getting your car clean, from washing one’s car oneself, in the front yard, to taking it to an automated car wash. Or something like this, in which you do it yourself, but don’t have the inconvenience of getting out the hose and pail of soap. Water and soap provided by the facility. And power vacuum to do the interior.

I have observed something: if one washes one’s car, it gets dirty almost…
