On September 14, voters of the state of CA soundly defeated the recall of Gavin Newsom, sitting governor.
The cost? An estimated $276M.
In case you wondered, that money didn’t come from printing presses busily cutting stimulus cheques.
A number (19) of states have provisions whereby they may recall elected officials. Here is an informative link:
CA has among the less stringent requirements for recall: 12% of the number of votes in the prior election; in 5 (of 58) counties, only 1% are required.
Of the remaining 18 states, only MT and VA (at 10%) have less stringent requirements.
I get it.
CA is a deeply blue state.
Newsom trounced his Republican opponent in 2018 by 62% to 38%.
In the recent recall election, Newsom garnered over 60% of the vote.
A snowball might have a greater chance of surviving in hell than someone other than a Democrat winning a major office in CA.
But, after all the breast beating and posturing is over, what’s left?
