4 Months Out— and Counting

Election Day is November 5, 2024.

4 months away.

We have heard this before, but it seems particularly apt now.

The stakes have never been higher.

It seems really true this time.

On the one hand, we have a candidate who has swept aside all pretense of democracy; who has said he will become ‘dictator on Day One;’ who openly sides with dictators like Vladimir Putin and Kim Jong Un (the latter of whom he claims to have exchanged ‘love letters’ with; who has openly vowed revenge on his perceived political foes.

Who, if he is ever returned to office, may never willingly leave again.

Two terms be damned.

He may have to be taken out in a box.

Who never conceded when he lost in 2020.

‘Concession’ seems not to be part of his vocabulary, and he seems disinclined to make it so.

The word may have too many syllables (‘bigly’ has only two).

On the other hand, we have a candidate who is 3 years older, but perhaps acts even older. He is showing his age.

His latest debate performance seriously makes viewers wonder if he can walk the walk.

He can continue to talk the talk, but he did so in bumbling fashion and his performance left many viewers (including his supporters) aghast.
